I’m a preferred OSX and Linux (unbuntu flavor) user. I do all my video, audio and design work on a beefed up G5 Powermac. I use windows a good bit too, I’m actually writing this post on my Alienware laptop. But there is a missing elegance in everything windows does. Even with vista, it’s like putting lipstick on a pig.
Anecdotally speaking, the “blue screen of death” (hereto known as BSOD) has been somewhat of a bother for me. I when I worked as a sysadmin BSOD’s appeared often, usually because of a bad windows update or a misconfigured RAID controller – but always happening in the middle of the night. Though the BSOD is not explicitly a windows thing, seeing a BSOD has come somewhat of a cultural phenomemon, so much so that even Microsoft themselves poked fun at it by releasing a Blue Screen Screensaver. Even the 2008 Beijing Olympics are getting in on the action.
I was browsing reddit yesterday, and I came across this gem. It was taken during the 8/20 Nine Inch Nails show in St. Louis, Missouri. I’ve been to many NIN shows, there is an essential visual component to all of the performances that adds a great depth to the show. Perhaps most amusing is that Trent Reznor is a known Mac user for recording purposes. I imagine this BSOD was met with much chagrin on the part of Nine Inc hNails. (credit: ltrandazzo flickr)
Edit 9/12: It appears, that this is part of the visuals for “The Great Destroyer” Since last month, this above image went viral and appeared multiple times over social news websites like reddit. And now Gizmodo has posted about it.
