The War of the Worlds

One of my favorite and oft under-appreciated forms of storytelling is the Radio Play. Using a completely aural medium to convey story is a difficult task. Sound must be king. With visual elements the audience can see the faces of actors as they deliver their lines, on radio acting must transcend the medium.

The Orson Welles adaptation of H.G. Wells The War of the Worlds stands as a testament to the convincing power of radio. It was the adaptation of the adaptation by WKBW in Buffalo New York in 1968 that quantifies what is so great about a radio play.

Listen to it and enjoy!
